I have a 2000 VW cabolet with a starting problem once ...

I have a 2000 VW cabolet with a starting problem once in awhile the engine will turn over but will not start if you turn the key to and try again it will start last year the garage changed the coil but did not cure the problem.It do this cold or hot I had two GM''s car''s with the same problem and it was the crankshaft sensor could it be the same for this car.

If the crank sensor with the problem your check engine light would be on, More than likely you have a bad igntion switch, to verify next time it does not start look and see if the check engine light is on or not, if it is not on, then more than likely your electrical part of the ignition switch has failed.
